the backwaters

Fort Kochi was heel gezellig. Er was een heel leuk Art Cafe, een combinatie van kunstgalerij en cafe en er waren ook nog enkele andere kunstgalerijen. Ik ben er in de joodse buurt gaan rondlopen. Iets wat ik op mijn vorige reis ook gedaan had, maar dat ik totaal vergeten was, tot ik 't terug zag. Buiten een oude synagoge is er niet veel joods aan de buurt, maar er zijn wel een hoop leuke winkeltjes...
Ondertussen ben ik samen met Eva en Walter uit Oostenrijk naar Alaphuza (Alleppey) doorgereisd. Vandaag hebben we een boottochtje van 5 uur op de backwaters gemaakt. De backwaters zijn een systeem van honderden rivieren en kanaaltjes, die in 't poldergebied van Kerala liggen. De boottocht was echt de moeite waard. Morgen gaan we waarschijnlijk met de boot naar Kollam, dat zal wel met een grote boot zijn en de tocht zal 8 uur duren...



Fort Cochi was really nice. There was a great Art Cafe, a combination of an art gallery and a cafe and there were some other art galleries too. I walked around in the jewish neighbourhood. Something I did on my first trip to India, 6 years ago, as well, but I completely forgot it untill I was there again. There's not much jewish about that neighbourhood, except the old synagogue, but it's an area with lot's of nice shops...
Yesterday I travelled with Eva and Walter from Austria to Alaphuza (Alleppey). Today we made a boattrip on the Backwaters for 5 hours. The Backwaters are a system of hundreds of rivers and canals in Kerala. The boattrip was really worth it. Tomorrow we will take a boat to Kollam, that will be in a big boat and it will take about 8 hours...
