Halebid, Belur en Shravana Belgola

Ondertussen zit ik in Hassan. Ik ben nog naar Madikeri geweest, maar dat viel een beetje tegen, ik dacht dat er theeplantages zouden zijn, maar dat was niet, en 't was er ook belange niet zo heuvelachtig als verwacht. Dus ben ik maar doorgereisd naar Hassan. Hassan is een heel druk en stoffig stadje, waar op zich niks interessant te zien is, maar 't is de perfecte uitvalsbasis om Belur, Halebid en Shravan Belgola te bezoeken. Vandaag ben ik naar Halebid en Belur geweest. Daar staan enkele tempels uit de 12 de eeuw, met prachtige reliefs. In tegenstelling tot de tempels in Hampi, waar het beeldhouwwerk door de jaren vervaagd is, zijn de reliefs in deze tempels prachtig bewaard gebleven. Morgen ga ik naar Shravana Belgola, waar er een reusachtig monolithisch beeldhouwwerk (ze beweren 't grootste ter wereld), staat van een Jain profeet, geloof ik. En daarna vertrek ik naar Mangalore aan de kust, om er de trein of de bus naar Kerala te nemen...

By now, I'm in Hassan. I did go to Madikeri, but it was not as nice as I hoped it would be. I thought there would be teaplantations, but there were non. And it was not as hilly as I imagined. So I moved on to Hassan. Hassan is a very bussy and very dusty little town, where there's not really anything to see, but it's a good place to stay to visit, Belur, Halebid and Shravana Belgola. Today I visited Halebid and Belur. There are some temples from the 12th century, with beautiful reliefs. The sculptures had been conservated almost perfectly, so all the details were still visible. Tomorrow I will go to Shravana Belgola, where there is a huge monolithic sculpture (they claim the biggest in the world) of a Jain profet, I believe. And after that I will take the bus to Mangalore to take the train or bus to Kerala...
