Aangekomen !

the streets of Bombay


Hier ben ik dan, eindelijk aangekomen in Bombay. 't Is toch anders dan tijdens mijn vorige reis naar India, 6 jaar geleden, de cultuurshock is een pak minder. 't is hier wel heel vuil, er lopen gigantisch veel mensen op straat en 't verkeer is onbeschrijfelijk lawaaierig en chaotisch, maar ik ben er deze keer toch veel minder van onder de indruk. Wat me wel opviel deze keer is dat 80-90 % van de mensen die buiten rondlopen mannen zijn.
Ik ben daarstraks naar Colaba geweest, de buurt waar de meeste toeristen eigenlijk verblijven, ik ben gaan kijken naar de Gateway of India, en toen ik daarna terug naar mijn hotel was aan 't wandelen, sprak een iets oudere Indier me aan, uiteindelijk bleek dat hij al enkele keren naar Belgie was geweest en dat hij er enkele goeie Belgische vrienden heeft. Hij heeft me dan een een kopje chai (thee) getrakteert, en me de weg naar de Crawford Market gewezen.
Morgenavond neem ik de trein naar Goa, ik zal toch blij zijn als ik op een iets rustigere plek ben...



Gateway of India


Here I am, finally arrived in Bombay. It's a bit different from my last trip to India 6 years ago, the culture shock is a lot less. But it is very filthy, there are so many people on the streets and the traffic is unbelievably chaotic and noisy, but I'm not as impressed by it than last time. I did notice something else though, 80-90 % of the people on the streets are men.
Earlier today I went to Colaba, the neighbourhood where most tourists stay in Bombay. And I went to see the Gateway of India. On my way back to the hotel an older Indian man started talking with me, apparently he had been to Belgium several times and he has some good friends there. He bought me a cup of chai, and showed me the way to Crawford Market.
Tomorrow evening i will take the train to Goa, I think I will be happy to be in calmer place...
